Costa Rica Sand Art: Playa Dominical

I was vacationing at a really great hippie surfer beach in Costa Rica called “Playa Dominical” this past December. As I was walking along the beach early one morning, I found these amazing works of art in the sand. The really amazing thing is that no human did these. These were created by “Nature”!

I couldn’t bring the beach home with me (wow; wish I could bring Playa Dominical back to Media!) so I took these photos.

The above photo looks like a tree growing out of a rock. I have no idea how this was one was created. Maybe the rocks or drift wood dancing around when the tide came up and then when the tide went back out; the sand displays the fresh little works of art until the next wave washes them away.

This next photo shows the “artist in action”. See the little shell with a path behind it? That is the artist! The animal artist in her shell was scooting around in the sand creating a windy little path and she drew a heart in the sand! She put so much love into her masterpiece!

I printed these photos at Bumblejax on metallic paper and mounted them inside 12×12 acrylic frames.

Come see them tonight at Temaki Sushi from 6-9pm!

Be sure to stop by Temaki Sushi on Sat. Feb. 11th from 6:00-9:00pm for Media’s 2nd Saturday celebration! Mary will unveil her exhibit titled “Nature’s Art” and treat you to cookies and wine!

Hope to see you there!

Mary has always had a love for nature and all of it’s beauty. Through her camera lens, Mary has been capturing the beauty that has truly been created by nature. Whether it has been created by an animal, a leaf, the wind, the water, or perhaps just an amazing orange cricket nestled upon a vividly striped green leaf; it is nature’s art.

The top photo, “Colors of Glen Providence Pond” was taken last fall of the pond with the colors of fall reflecting in the water; amongst a bed of water lilies. The “Costa Rica Sand Art” truly won Mary’s heart; especially since if you look closely at both photos, each one contains a “heart” drawn by a little shell animal in the sand! The photo above (bottom left) of the sand art “tree” has a tiny heart on the left side (you need to see the photo in person to see the heart) and the right photo; you can see a large heart on the right and little shell with a windy path in the sand behind it; that is the animal in his shell (the artist in his shell!).

Mary also has loved reflections in nature; ever since the day that she discovered an amazing reflection of her family in the creek as they looked down into the water; she saw their reflection, along with the reflection of the trees and the sky, all meshed together with the real water and plants and logs that were in the water. Mary’s photo titled “Reflections Earth Connections” is a photo of this scene; taken a couple of years ago at Smedley Park in Media, Pa.

Be sure to stop by Temaki Sushi to see Mary’s work! The “Costa Rica Sand Art”, the water reflections photos; which include the “Colors of Glen Providence Pond”, “Reflections Earth Connections”, the “orange cricket”, and many more will be there! Along with the cookies and wine for 2nd Saturday; Mary will also have a collection of small prints for sale. See you on 2nd Saturday!

How many times have you noticed that some of the best photo ops are when you are traveling around in a car, or some other mode of transportation? How many times is it easy to just stop and take photos where you see the best ones? Many times more it is usually just too hard to stop, eh?

Well, there is a way to capture some fabulous photos without stopping! As a matter of fact, without even getting out of your car!

I was in Costa Rica over the holidays on vacation with my family. My husband was driving and I just happened to have the camera in my lap; just in case we had a chance to pull over somewhere for photo ops. Well, I just kept getting the best photo ops from views that were in the car & where we couldn’t stop!

I suddenly decided to shoot photos through the windshield!

Some things just happen so fast and you just need to be ready to “click quick” through the glass; or you just might miss that moment! These are moments that happen so fast; you don’t even have time to stop the car! You barely have time to get the camera out of your camera bag, so have your camera ready! I had mine in my lap and turned on and ready to shoot!

When the glass is clean, wow; you can get amazing shots! Some in angles that you would NEVER be able to shoot if you were just standing there! Here is my favorite “through the windshield” shot I took on this trip:

We were just driving along the road & all of a sudden, from nowhere, this man and his horses came running towards us! I quickly shot this photo, then another. Wow! It appears as if they are running to us!

Now, sometimes the photos come out blurred or spotty (see example below); you should ask the driver to run the windshield wipers w/ cleaning fluid here & there to keep the glass surface clean. Also; beware of bumps in the road such as when traveling in places like Costa Rica. You might want to put your camera on “anti shake” mode or something similar if you have such a setting.

What about the blurry photos? Well, if you draw and paint as a hobby or career, then you might want to save those to use as “notes” for a potential painting! I took a photo of two women and a baby walking towards us on the dirt road & we hit a bump; so they are blurry. But, I have enough notes from this blurry shot to paint this scene later! Or, perhaps if you are writing a journal about your trip; this could help you remember things that happened.

What about the side windows? Yes! Absolutely use these! I do; and if it is warm enough, roll them down and you won’t have to shoot through the glass. Sometimes you might capture the side mirror; but sometimes that actually enhances the photo (reflections can be captured in the mirror!).

I’d love to hear your success stories if you have ever taken photos while in the car! Please post your comments here at www. Kokopellisearth.com. If you have any tricks or tips to add to this; I’d love to hear from you!

We usually show up mid afternoon and catch some kids thing going on in town and/or music before the show, as well as some tailgating at our cars. Last year we saw a great latin band at the Steel City Cafe which is a really nice venue.

We get to the bird about an hour or more before it starts and pick up some hot soup, apple cider and cookies which are always near the bird area.

Saturday December 10th.

What was once described as staph infection ,now it is called a multi drug resistant bacteria.Hard to treat with the many antibiotics already out there.Normally found in nursing homes and hospital’s with the addition to a community strain found in gym’s. I was diagnosed with this strain two and a half years ago. After a couple rounds of antibiotics only to see it come back ,I was left hopeless and pretty much felt like I was given a death sentence. It was at that time I discovered that the British Medical Journal had just reported that TEA TREE OIL is now being used as a strong defense and decolonization. One important method was using a diffuser in a room where it reduced 99% of the strain from surfaces. With that news I left for my local health food store and bought every soap, shampoo along with a diffuser and tea tree oil and left for home to begin my new therapy. The results were astounding. All gone within a month and MRSA free now for well over two years. There is a better and healthier way that nature provides us.Here is the link to the study.

My wife and I have been using a natural salt deodorant for about two years now. We are both very happy with it. Normal antiperspirants contain aluminum which has been reported to cause Alzheimer’s, breast cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer. Also, an antiperspirant is designed to stop you from sweating. This is not a good thing. Sweating allows the body to release toxins that cannot be released in any other way. When antiperspirant is used, those toxins accumulate in the body and glands and can eventually cause cancer. Your stink is caused by the bacteria not the sweat. Sweat is not a problem but is in fact a very good thing. Sweating is designed to cool the body. There have been many reports of people who were known to be big stinky sweaters when they used antiperspirant and where cured by using natural salt deodorant. Allowing the body to do what it wants to do is always a good thing and if you stop it, it will usually overcompensate. There is a detox period when switching over to salt deodorant. During this period the toxins will come out and you may stink more. After that, most people have reported liking salt deodorant more than antiperspirants. The recommended application method is to leave the area wet after bathing and rub the salt on. A typical salt crystal deodorant will cost about $7 and last a year or more. Remember, anything that you apply to your skin will absorb into you blood and body. Do yourself a favor and try it out. Your kids will also thank you when you are old and have a sound mind :) Stay away from the statins too.

peace

The theme this year was “Alive and Pulsing” and I successfully captured this, totally candidly, when Lila was walking up to our friend Garrett, lovingly holding his “hug” arms towards her one evening this past summer during Media’s “Dining under the Stars”. State St. (the main street through town) is closed to automobiles every Wed. night during summer & early fall; kids can chalk up the street and sidewalks, and restaurants have dining outside in the street! Media is such a great town.
