I’ve been in the studio creating a fun and exciting children’s book titled “Leo’s Great Idea”. It is about a Rhino who gets into mischief and then gets lost; and the adventure begins! I am so excited about this book. As you may know, Rhinos are endangered from being poached for their horns for so many years. I plan to donate part of the sale from each book towards a conservancy in Kenya that protects Rhinos from poachers. More info about this to come later…

Here is a peak at one of the scenes in the book; when Leo discovers that he loves to dance and chase the dragonflies. Tock, the tick-bird, sits on his head.

I just sketched this out today and added some color; and I would love love love your opinion on something. I am trying to decide if I want to keep it “simple” with the white background just as it is; or if I should add a contrasting color to make the scene “pop” more (such as a light yellow). Any suggestions?

Here is my 8 year old son Jerry working on a painting over the weekend!

He started with a “paint by numbers” type of painting (preprinted picture on canvas and he filled in the colors). He did not follow the color guide; he just filled in the colors as he liked (great creative way to do it!)

Then he asked me if I had any blank canvases and I brought him a canvas paper; he got really creative and “let loose” with the paint!

He really enjoyed mixing the colors of paint to see what colors he could come up with. He definitely got some good use out of my old t-shirt art smock!

Bravo, Jerry! Mommy is proud.

surfin movies

Hey so I’m going to do a series of posts on movies. i have a huge collection and would like to share some of my favorites.

I’m going to start with a series of surfin movies. My favorite ever is surf crazy by bruce brown. bruce brown is a legend. check it out.

This is the first in a really great set of movies by bruce brown. I think netflix has it or half.com. It is really classic. Great music too.

Our new Banana Tree!

On Earth Day, a friend of ours gave us a banana tree! In celebration of Earth Day, we planted it in our back yard.

The rain gave us a nice shower as we dug the hole and gave this tree a welcome home, and the kids enjoyed shoveling in the dirt!

Thanks to all who came to our first annual concert at Kokopelli’s Earth! Michelle sang and played guitar, harmonica, and even the drums! We all had a great time. Mary unveiled her newest art in the home gallery as folks came inside to gather for refreshments. What a fun night!
